Answer Engine Optimization

When the answer replaces the visit.

Someone asks Claude or ChatGPT which tool fits their problem. They get an answer with three names in it. Nobody clicked through ten tabs — and the sites that were not machine-readable were never candidates.

What it actually is

AEO is not a new ranking game.

Answer engines do not rank ten blue links. They read sources, extract facts and compose an answer. Whether you appear depends on whether your page states its facts in a form a machine can lift — the product, the price, the terms, the answers to obvious questions.

That is the honest version. Anyone selling you an AEO ranking factor is guessing: no vendor publishes how sources are picked, and nobody has reliable comparative data. What can be measured is whether your page is technically readable at all — and that part is not guesswork.

The four levers

What actually moves.

  1. 1

    Access

Your robots.txt decides which AI crawlers may read you at all — GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and others. Many sites block them by accident, or allow none of them and wonder about the silence.

  2. 2

    Structured facts

JSON-LD is the only place where your page states unambiguously what it offers and what it costs. A price that only exists as styled text is invisible to a model comparing vendors.

  3. 3

    A summary you wrote

llms.txt gives a model a short, authored description of your site instead of leaving it to infer one from your navigation. Not a ratified standard — cheap to add, see the dedicated page.

  4. 4

    Being distinguishable

If every page carries the same title and description, a model cannot tell your pricing page from your imprint. This is the most common finding we see, and the most damaging.

How we measure it

Checked, not guessed.

AEO is one half of the Web Ready report, included from the Trust tier. Every scan checks your llms.txt, the completeness of your structured data, whether your prices are machine-readable, and which AI crawlers your robots.txt admits. You get an internal report with the evidence behind each finding — never a public claim, never anything that touches your badge.

What Web Ready checks

Questions

Does AEO replace SEO?
No. A page that search engines cannot index is not a source for an answer engine either. AEO comes on top of the basics, it does not replace them.
Can you get me into ChatGPT answers?
Nobody can promise that, and we do not. We check whether your site is technically readable and complete. Whether a model picks you as a source is its decision, not a setting.
Should I block AI crawlers instead?
That is a legitimate choice — but it is a decision, not a default. We show you which crawlers you currently admit and which you block, so the state of your robots.txt matches what you intended.
Is this measurable at all?
The technical side is: markup is either present and valid or it is not. The outcome — being quoted more often — is not something we or anyone else can measure reliably today, and we will not claim otherwise.
